Student Life

A key characteristic of Morningside College is the high degree of student participation in College affairs.   Students are encouraged to be active builders, not just beneficiaries, of the culture of the College.  We look to them, and encourage them to look to one another, for ideas, inspiration, and leadership of College activities; we expect them to support and guide one another; and they are asked not just to identify problems within the College community but to seek and implement solutions and resolve conflicts.  Faculty Fellows and distinguished visitors from around the world in residence at the College also contribute time, energy, and thought to enriching the life of the College.  

To complement their formal classroom work, students have the opportunity to explore a diverse offering of other academic and cultural activities as part of the College’s General Education program.  Student activities such as student government, debating, service and sports groups, theater and music societies, and various interest groups further enrich their learning experience.  

A sense of social responsibility and engagement, expressed both within the College and in service activities in the community, is central to the ethos of the College, and all Morningside students are expected to participate in community service.  Students are also encouraged to pursue an international study or work experience during their years at the College.
