Drum Jam: Building Community with Rhythm

At Morningside we’ve learned the best way to take advantage of all the energy that comes with a fresh school year is to make some music! Kumi Masunaga, founder of Rhythm of Life Co., returned to Morningside for her fifth time Thursday night to lead students in a one-of-a-kind interactive rhythm program. Following Kumi’s direction, College Fellows, Junior Fellows, and students produced a continuously changing string of complex rhythms using a variety of simple percussion instruments, including drums, percussion tubes, and shakers. However, the height of the entertainment was at the closing of the programme when Kumi’s assistant Pitchu selected some brave students from the audience to join him on stage to dance to the beat!
