Learning to Wine and Dine: Morningside holds Wine Tasting Workshop for students

22November2016

Last week, Morningside welcomed back Premiere Fine Wines for a Wine Tasting Workshop on campus! The two hour workshop was led by Perry Mok, a certified Sommelier of the Court of Master Sommeliers in the United States. The workshop covered all of the basics of wine, from how it is made, to the world-wide varieties, to how it ought to be chosen and drunk. The workshop featured five different kinds of wines: a sparkling wine, a Shiraz, a Pinot, and two white wines. They were then paired with three different kinds of cheeses. During the workshop, students practiced reading wine bottle labels in order to pick the best wine, smoothly opening wine bottles, and took turns explaining the undertones they tasted in the different wines. Of the workshop, first year student Ivan Lo said: “I thought the wine tasting workshop was very enjoyable and the overall experience was very pleasant. I’ve definitely learnt more about more varieties of wines, and understand my own preference for different wines.”
