Second Formal Hall Dinner of the 2015-2016 Academic Year

Morningside recently celebrated the final Formal Hall of 2015. Professor Alexandra Cook of Hong Kong University gave a dinner talk entitled “Jean-Jacques Rousseau, botany and the herbarium,” which explored the aesthetic and practical uses of dried plant collections, and the enjoyment Rousseau found in admiring and gathering plant specimens. As students prepare for their final exams, the message of the lecture carried a timely reminder; after many hours of studying, finding a moment to appreciate natural wonder can afford a fresh perspective.
