Chairman of Committee of Overseers, Dr Gerald Chan, Present for First Formal Hall Dinner of the 2015-2016 Academic Year

The Chairman of Morningside’s Committee of Overseers, Dr Gerald Chan, joined us for the first Formal Hall of the year. Following dinner, College Fellow Professor Emily Chan gave a talk about her work at the Collaboration Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response. She began by touching upon the uses of having an international student body, a point she tied into her own work with the China Ethnic Minority Health Programme; “it’s about connections,” she explained. The Programme connects medical professionals and university students with villages prone to natural disasters. By using evidence based research to understand the challenges specific to each site, participants work closely with villagers to innovate strategies that will improve disaster preparedness. Left wondering what it is we can learn from each other, Morningsiders settled into dessert.
