Drum Jam: Community Music at Communal Dinner

Drum Jam is the only communal dinner that begins with pounding on tables, shouting throughout the Dining Hall, and such exuberant smiles and laughter. Kumi Masunaga, founder of Hong Kong Drum Jam, returned to Morningside for her fourth time Thursday night to lead the students in a one-of-a-kind interactive rhythm program. With Kumi and her partner Pitshu’s help, the initial wild clamor of dozens of percussion instruments became well-ordered music. By the end of the program, students had successfully worked together to play and sing the melody to the classic Bob Marley song ‘Buffalo Soldier’. Thanks again to Drum Jam for uplifting and empowering the Morningside community!
