Eventful Formal Hall Marks Last Day of Term

2025年417日

The second term of the 2024-2025 academic year drew to a close on Thursday 17 April, as Morningsiders gathered in the Dining Hall alongside Fellows, College leadership, and families of the graduating class. Master of Ceremonies Islam Zhandaliyev (Law, Year 4) returned to the stage to emcee his last College event, in what was fittingly a night of celebration for the graduating class. Before dinner began, College Master Professor Nick Rawlins thanked families for their continued support of Morningside and its students, and shared in the evening’s sentiments: this, too, would be his final spring term at Morningside.

After dinner was served, the winners of the Morningside College Essay Competition and Morningside College Photography Competition were announced. Hong Kong writer Karen Cheung, guest judge of the Essay Competition, was welcomed onto the stage to present prizes to the three student awardees. Morningside Fellow Professor Benny Lim was the guest judge for the Photography Competition, and similarly helped in awarding prizes to the eight winners. Non-Morningside awardees were invited to Formal Hall as guests of the College.

At the end of the event-packed night, two Resident Tutors, Joyce Lee and Aaron Li, sang an impromptu duet supported by Thanapon Maiseaumsook (Computer Science, Year 2) on the piano. Dessert was served, and the graduating class assembled for a group photo with families, College Fellows and leadership.
