First James A. Mirrlees Postgraduate Scholarship Awarded

On Wednesday 26 March, Morningside held its second Award Ceremony of 2024-2025. In addition to celebrating the accomplishments of its current students, the first James A. Mirrlees Postgraduate Scholarship was awarded to Maxwell Choi, a 24’ MB ChB graduate of Morningside College. The scholarship, named in honour of Nobel laureate and Morningside College founding master Professor Sir James Mirrlees, enables recent Morningside graduates to pursue advanced postgraduate studies in the UK and Ireland. It is awarded on the basis of academic excellence, mastery in extra-curricular pursuits, and service to community. Recipients of the award receive up to £30,000 in financial support annually for the duration of their studies. Maxwell will join the Neurosurgery MRes program at University College London Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
Other awardees honoured at the Ceremony include freshman Arvin Pong (MB ChB), who received the David Parker General Education Best Essay Prize for his GEMC1001 final essay. The Morningside Service Award was given to Kelly Ho (Year 4, Electronic Engineering). Exchange student Carlos Rangel Outeda and second year student Allison Wan (IBBA) received the Morningside Spirit Award. Chloe Wan (Year 2, MB ChB) and Karmen Yip (Year 4, Global Communication) were awarded the Morningside Achievement Award. The Master of Ceremonies was Season Lam, a Year 1 student from the Faculty of Science.
