Morningside celebrates Annual Burns Supper

2018年126日

On Wednesday 24 January Morningside held its annual Burns Supper, a time-honored Scottish tradition celebrating the late poet Robert Burns. The night of festivities included student performances, poetry readings, and traditional Scottish delicacies such as haggis, trifle, and scotch. In his closing remarks, Acting Master Professor Christopher Gane emphasized the importance and rarity of celebrating literary figures. He argued that Robert Burns was a flawed man rife with contradictions, but that this complexity of character humanized Burns and his poetry, allowing it to remain relevant more than a century later. Thank you to all the performers and student helpers who volunteered their time to make the evening a success.
