2018年529日

On 11 May, Morningside College hosted the Establishment Ceremony of the James A. Mirrlees Postgraduate Scholarship Fund. The fund created in Sir James's name will support Morningside graduates who continue their studies in universities in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

At the ceremony, Acting Master Professor Christopher Gane welcomed guests, fellows and students to the ceremony. Scholarship Fundraising Committee co-chairman and former Vice-Chancellor of CUHK Professor Lawrence Lau thanked the many donors who contributed to the fund.

After dinner, Vice-Chancellor Professor Rocky Tuan delivered a farewell speech. "Sir James, on behalf of the entire University community, I thank you for your immeasurable contributions to education in Hong Kong and especially for the depth of your commitment to this College," Professor Tuan said. "You have left an indelible mark on this place and its people." Professor Tuan then presented Sir James and Lady Mirrlees with a farewell gift, a piece of calligraphic art created by former Vice-Chancellor Professor Ambrose King depicting the poem "To Wang Lun" by Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai.

Lady Mirrlees then delivered remarks on behalf of herself and Sir James, thanking the staff, fellows and friends who supported them during their time in Hong Kong. We will miss Sir James and Lady Mirrlees dearly, and we wish them well as they return to Cambridge!
