A Vision for Youth Development in Hong Kong

21April2017

Strengthening and fostering youth is the continuous mission of a college, but there was a special emphasis on the youth at Morningside College’s final formal hall on Thursday, 20 April 2017. As is appropriate, the energy level in the room was higher than ever. The newly formed Morningside Band kicked off the evening with performances of songs by Ed Sheeran and Adam Levine.  After dinner was served, college guest, Mr. Lau Ming Wai, Chairman of the Commission on Youth (CoY) and a dedicated businessman and philanthropist, delivered a speech on youth development in Hong Kong and shared insights from his two years as Chairman of the CoY. Mr. Lau attributed his efforts to steer the commission back to its original mission of advising the government on youth policy and advocating on their behalf to his background in studying Laws. He hopes the message to the government is clear: Youth development in Hong Kong requires the creation of jobs with a potential for upward mobility, an increase in UGC funded higher education, and more subsidized housing.
