Aidan Tam Explores Medical Research, Innovation at UMass Chan

08July2025

Morningsider Aidan Tam recently returned from a seven-week medical clerkship at the University of Massachusetts's T.H. Chan Medical School (UMass Chan), where he contributed to the Massachusetts AI Assurance for Healthcare Lab and the institution’s Hospital at Home team. This unique experience, which came about by chance after Aidan met UMass Chan’s Chancellor, Dr Michael Collins, at the Master’s Lodge in Morningside, has pushed Aidan to reevaluate his career interests as he enters his fourth year of studies.

Reflecting on his experience, Aidan says his eyes have really been opened to the possibilities in medicine. “My experience at UMass Chan expanded my understanding of medicine beyond clinical practice. I gained insight into how research, innovation, and policy all intersect to shape healthcare systems and patient outcomes.” His time there has also prompted Aidan to reflect on how he can contribute to establishing a similar AI assurance and governance network in Hong Kong.
