Where can an engineering degree take you?

That was the topic of the latest alumni sharing session organized by the MC Alumni Association on the evening of Tuesday 11 February. Building on the success of last fall’s talks, the MC Alumni Association invited four graduates of Morningside College from the Faculty of Engineering to share their job experiences with students. Anju Otsuka (’20, Computer Science), Vimbai Mangwiro (’20, Information Engineering), Jimmy Kiyama (’20, Information Engineering), and Jeremy Chung (’23, Systems Engineering) partook in the valuable discussion moderated by Ishmam-ul Haque (Year 5, Information Engineering).
Jeremy, the most recent graduate on the panel, recalled his final year project and how it helped him stand out in job interviews. “Because I was so passionate about it, they ended up being interested in it too,” he says. Anju similarly recalled some courses she took in CUHK that were particularly helpful, but also reminded students that extracurricular activities help develop the soft skills expected in many engineering roles. Jimmy discussed working in telecommunications and offered insight into Hong Kong’s non-financial industries where engineers might find jobs, while Vimbai advised students to attend career talks and make a habit of remembering recruiters’ names and faces—they might become your colleague one day.
