Wine 101: Morningside hosts third Wine Tasting Workshop

23November2017

On Monday 20 November, Morningside welcomed back Premiere Fine Wines for a third Wine Tasting Workshop on campus! The two hour workshop was led by Perry Mok, a certified Sommelier of the Court of Master Sommeliers in the United States. The workshop covered the basics of wine, including how it is made, the world-wide variations in production and taste, and how it ought to be chosen and drunk. The workshop featured five different kinds of wine: a sparkling rose, a Chardonnay, a Shiraz, a Bordeaux, and a dessert wine.

During the workshop, students practiced reading wine bottle labels in order to pick the best wine, smoothly opening wine bottles, and took turns trying to determine the different undertones they tasted in the wines. Of the workshop, first year student Kerry Lui said: "After the Wine Tasting Workshop, I have gained basic knowledge about the culture and appreciation of wine, such as some wines are named after their regions, which I feel is essential as wine drinking is becoming more common as a social activity.”
