2023 Freshmen Arrive for a Week of Festivities and Settling In

07September2023

Our newest students arrived at the college in late August, to a warm reception from upperclassmen, the college leadership, Fellows, and the college staff. On Monday, August 5, the college hosted a Welcoming Lunch for the freshmen. Dean of Students Professor Colin Graham reminded students of their admissions interviews and urged them to commit to ambitions they had expressed in those conversations. Student Union President Ishmam Ul Haque reminisced about being a freshman himself and being put off by the sentimental attachment his upperclassmen had expressed towards the college. Now on the podium, he believed his experiences justified new expressions of “cheesy” affection for his home here.

Picking up after the Welcoming Lunch, the students began the Morningside College Orientation Camp, presided over by second-years Suyasha Mohan and Wystan Lau, both students within the Faculty of Medicine. The student-run, weeklong initiation included activities such as ice-breaking games, a ‘Mini Olympics’, Art Jam, a campfire and dance, ‘Battle Games’, a campus-wide treasure hunt, Music Night, and a cooking competition, alongside casual get-togethers at a movie night, a pizza dinner, and a Dai Pai Dong. Thank you and congratulations to all the students who contributed to the Orientation Camp!
